In general, I shoot my work with couples in black and white. I love the way black-and-white imagery takes the mind out of its normal reality, and the way it focuses attention on detail. I also feel that working in black and white makes the point of separating my imagery from the world of commercial pornography, where almost all imagery is in color.
But when it came time to do the shoot with Kitty and her friend and sexual partner, Daisy, I decided to use the shoot to experiment with color. Kitty’s brightly-colored hair was an obvious cue, but I was also curious to see if I could achieve the same sense of intimacy and connection in color that happens in black and white. So when Kitty asked specifically that I shoot her and Daisy in color, I accepted her challenge.
